A couple of ideas for #3Nephi20. I used the information in the Book of Mormon Institute Teachers Manual on pages 415 and 416 to give background history on the House of Israel and the lost tribes. I put up all of page 415 (the visual parts) on the board and also added that Lehi left in 600 BC. Talked about physical vs. spiritual gathering--quote on p. 416 was very helpful--quotes from all 4 manuals were helpful (seminary, institute, teacher, student) I emphasized that they are mostly from the tribe of Ephraim which gives them an obligation to (spiritually) gather the rest of the house of Israel. We read 3 Nephi 20:13 looking for two promises that Jesus made and emphasized that the second promise was an important part of the gathering. One of the best parts of the lesson: I used the supplemental lesson idea from our seminary manual. Part way through the lesson I broke out a bottle of juice and poured myself a cup and raved about how good it is. I took sips every now and again, commenting on how good it was. They knew something was up but I played it up. I even poured myself some more. At the end I asked them what the juice was all about and one of my quiet students guessed the right answer! We have something wonderful and delicious and appetizing (the gospel) and we shouldnt be afraid to share it. I used the line from the lesson, too, to help them understand: Im sorry! I didnt offer you any because I didnt think you would want any! I didnt want to offend you by offering something that you might not want! Then I offered juice to anyone who was willing to take a pass-along card with intention of giving it away. I had several takers :)
