A couple of interesting points about Huldufólk, or the hidden people of Icelandic folklore: 1. Huldufólk are diminutive, supernatural beings. 2. Huldufólk dislike crosses, churches and electricity. 3. Heedless of point two, some Icelanders have built tiny churches to convert huldufólk to Christianity. 4. One should never throw stones because of the possibility of hitting the huldufólk. 5. If you sit at a crossroads, Huldufólk will attempt to seduce you with food and gifts; there are grave consequences (not listed) for being seduced by their offers, but great rewards (also not listed) for resisting. 6. According to a 1975 survey by psychologist Erlendur Haraldsson, 7% of Icelanders (approximately 15,258 people, total) were definitely certain that Huldufólk exist. 7. Regardless of whether they believe in huldufólk or not, Icelanders evidently do enjoy eating something called Súrsaðir hrútspungar, which are blocks of pressed rams testicles, boiled and then cured in lactic acid.
