A couple of months ago we recieved an email from a lovely person by the name if Sarah Rose. She has achondroplasia (dwarfism) just like Floydy and her really good friend insisted on sending us this letter. We loved it so much that it sparked a beautiful friendship via Facebook and last week we finally met the gorgeous sarah. This was the letter Never have i met someone who is so surprising. When i first met sarah on what was practically a blind date (i knew in advance she was little) she turned up to my place and sat down on my sofa. when she stood back up again, her head was lower than before, due to the shortness of her legs. I was bemused by this and her obviously little arms attached to a regular sized torso as well as how it was possible that she could be such an exceptional athlete, yet still be so chubby. I suppose i was naive to it all. She seemed a little nervous, her eyes darted sideways when most would make eye contact and she had a prolonged blush in her cheeks. at the same time though, she was strangely disarming. I imagined in advance that i might feel sympathetic to her when meeting her, but at the time i actually met her when i should have felt that emotion, it was strangely vacant. She had somehow disarmed me. I thought perhaps it was just a little magicians misdirection; awkwardness masquerading as confidence. Or maybe it was her contagious belly laugh and nippy sense of humour but after some time i realised that it was neither. It was because she had an incredible self-assuredness and confidence and once i understood that she didnt need or want sympathy, there was no need to give her any. After i realised this, the door had opened to fun times. She is a super sport and can take a joke superbly well and then deliver back, a trait that only someone who is truly comfortable with who they are can have. Also, whilst being humble, she plays it like she has a huge ego. she might ridicule my clothes for example, asking me if i made the shirt i am wearing myself, and would question whether i am actually going to wear it outside with her, for fear that she may be embarrassed by my fashion sense, whilst she wears a goofy pair of kids jeans that she just cut the bottoms off giligans island style. The irony is beautiful. She talks about herself in the third person (the rosey) and sees herself as maybe an elvis presley like figure. but no-one can deny her this. She is so popular. And not just because she is kind and generous and supportive, its because she is just really loveable, really fun to be around. She is truly inspirational and that too, was surprising.
