A couple of observations from the Ray Rice situation. When the initial surveillance video was released, showing Janea Rice falling out of the elevator, unconscious, the assumption was that Ray Rice knocked her out. Everyones suspicions were confirmed when Ray and Janae admitted to it, and the NFL took immediate action by suspending RR for two games. Fast forward. TMZ released the surveillance footage from inside the elevator, showing RR punching JR twice, the second of which knocked her out cold. The NFL claims that they did not see this footage prior to TMZ having released it. Many people do not believe them, but I think were missing another point altogether. What did the NFL, and everyone else, actually think went on in that elevator, prior to TMZ releasing that footage? RR and JR admitted, publicly, what happened; the initial footage showed JR falling out of an elevator... Why couldnt we put 2 and 2 together and realize, Well, RR knocked JR out cold.? Why did it take the heinous footage from inside the elevator for everyone to react appropriately? As well, some people are looking to JRs forgiving spirit as reason this should be overlooked and allow them time to heal. If anyone has experienced or seen the results of domestic abuse, one thing is usually pretty consistent - the women will, fairly often, be forgiving and say her husband has changed and what have you. The reason for this? The woman is scared to death. Could you imagine what would happen to her if she were to admit all the times that RR had beaten her (lets not be naive to think that this is the one occasion)? She would be in a world of hurt, at the hand of her husband. JR needs help. She needs some responsible people to intercede for her and get her out of the horrific situation that she is in. Just as any woman who suffers abuse at the hand of her husband needs responsible people to come to her rescue. Women that find themselves in these unfortunate situations usually are unable to help themselves. Thats where we need to step in.
