A couple of weeks ago the LORD gave me a message to preach titled: Unprofitable and profitable pathways. The scripture that the LORD gave me to tie this around is found in Proverbs 16:25 (KJV) 25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. The story line goes like this- I found myself being spiritually destitute, and so I asked, “GOD, why can’t I feel you like I use to?” Not long after that I had a vision of me and lots of others walking around carrying ladders. This may seem insignificant, but it paints a grim picture of the common Christian! It didn’t take me long after pondering this vision to find scripture to enlighten my understanding. I always try to tie anything that I believe GOD has given me back to HIS WORD! I received the scripture about how if any person climbs up any other way, other than going through JESUS, then they are as a thief and robber. Well what do you do? Well I began to pray and immediately I received my answer! 5-6 months prior till this time a friend of mine introduced me to a reality TV show called Duck Dynasty. For me to be able to watch Duck Dynasty I had to upgrade my cable package. Not only did I start watching Duck Dynasty, but Mountain Men, American Restoration, Kounts Custom, Gas Monkey Garage, The Voice, Storage Wars, American Pickers etc… The more I began to pray, the more these shows became into relevance! As I asked the LORD why I couldn’t feel HIS presence like I use to, HE gave me another scripture. Now I must remind you that we are cleansed by the washing of water by the WORD of GOD! The WORD will clean and purge you!!!! If we will be attentive, and let our hearts receive the engrafted WORD of GOD! The scripture I got is in the book of James 4:7-8 (KJV) 7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. The part that stood out to me the most was, “Draw nigh to GOD, and HE will draw night to you!” Now this is not a message against television; television is just the tip of the iceberg! If you don’t resist the devil, then you are letting him get closer and closer, and GOD gets further and further. The point being is that the more television that I was watching, the less time I was spending in prayer, bible study, fasting, and less time with GOD. The scripture is just like the law of gravity, what goes up must come down. Paul said that all things were lawful, but not all things are expedient (Or profitable). I told the Church that I could go out and get an axe and cut my hand off, it’s lawful for me to do! You may call me crazy Dave and have me put in Rusk, but I can do it, but when I go to button my pants, get money out of my wallet, or tie my shoes I’m going to realize that it wasn’t very profitable to me! Couple of other scriptures the LORD gave me was in Jeremiah 2 where the children of Judah had committed two evils by forsaken the LORD the foundation of living water, and hewing them out cisterns that could hold no water, and in Haggai where the Prophet Haggai told them to “consider their ways!” They started out good, they rebuilt the alter, restored worship, and a year later laid the foundation, but because of opposition they stopped building the house of GOD for sixteen years till Haggai told them to consider their ways! The path they were taken were being unprofitable! We know the story of the unprofitable servant also!!!! What is profitable? Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with your GOD! Charity is profitable!!!!! Tried to keep it short lol… : ).
