A couple of years ago I wrote a book titled The Culture Of Now*…it was primarily about how, thanks to the Internet, we were building a culture in which memory played a less and less important role. It was about how everything had to happen now - not later. A new book takes this thought further. It is called The Impulse Society by Paul Roberts. He brings together several issues which have bothered me for a long time. The fact that where companies used to be guided by five-year plans they are now obsessed with making quarterly numbers (and often the only way to do that, and shore up the stock price, is to cut, cut, cut.) all the way to the fickle American attitude to threats like ISIS. Americans were adamantly against strikes in Syria or arming Syrian rebels…two beheadings later (admittedly disgusting inhuman events) they are suddenly all for them. Instant gratification…wanting more and wanting it NOW…is the subject of this book. And also what is stopping America from being the amazing country and culture it started out to become. *My signed limited edition sold out. But I may make it available again soon as an e-book. amazon/The-Impulse-Society-America-Gratification/dp/1608198146
