A couple of years ago, our flight diverted to Yokota Air Force Base (US) when Tokyos Narita Airport was closed due to high winds. We were there for a few hours to refuel, along with a few other UNITED and Delta aircraft. As dusk approached, RETREAT was blown over the base loudspeaker system. It was followed by KIMIGAYO, the national anthem of Japan and, finally, by THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER.
