A couple people have mentioned that we should sue the hospitals, - TopicsExpress

A couple people have mentioned that we should sue the hospitals, which we dont plan on doing. We dont really have legal grounds anyhow, because Cincinnati offered to put in another feeding tube, but I didnt want to put him through the pain of dilating his stoma. We thought the cath would be a long enough fix to get surgery scheduled their way. Spencer started screaming the day after we got home. By the time we got Spencer to the other hospital and settled, the skin around the stoma had been so damaged that it wouldnt hold sutures and we had to get the skin to heal before we could close. However, I do plan on raising a bit of hell. I asked for Spencers stoma to be closed when we went to Cincinnati and was told no. If they had closed it, it would have prevented my son from going through hell. He was in so much pain (even on meds) and we are all fairly traumatized. Next week Im going to contact several people at Cincinnati, including surgical and GI. Im not mad at his GI. I know he would have never pulled his feeding tube if he would have thought it would created so many problems. However, Im going to ask him to tell families who have had a feeding tube for a while to ask for a surgical consult before tube removal. Most of the time, tubes close on their own, but Ive heard from several doctors now that they recommend surgical close after having a tube for a couple years.
