A couple things: (1.) I remember a general authority of the church (that means Mormons, all my non-LDS friends) telling the story of how the feds were certain that they could put an ROTC program on the BYU campus because of the federal funds BYU supposedly got. They (the feds) were startled to learn that BYU took no federal funding and therefore had no obligation to take on an ROTC program. The GA cited that as a good example of why church and state must always remain separate. Therein lies our freedom from federal imposition and also our freedom from some other religions who would love to (and constantly push to) get their beliefs signed into secular law, and their beliefs taught in public schools, and their precepts and symbols displayed on government property. (2.) As an atheist, I really like Richard Dawkins. Hes a hero of mine, frankly. Not quite up there with Sam Harris, but darn close. Hero or not, I didnt know a non-citizen could lobby Congress. (!?!)
