A couple years ago I was working late at night moving heavy equipment. My normal stop was at the QT truck stop at 51st ave and the I-10. The was a homeless guy there that always came up and said hi to me during the winter. This particular night he was shivering a little because it was one of the colder nights we had that year. I grabbed a jacket out of the semi I had found laying on a job site and threw it at him and told him I hope it helps. I remember seeing this man start crying right in front of me. Street people are tough, Ive never actually seen one cry before. Apparently this guy who always smiled at me and was happy was hiding the fact that he was freezing every night and that was why he was at the truck stop. I think about that guy a lot in the winter. So this year I made a decision. Im going to collect everything I can that is warm and pass then out when I am out at night to homeless. I learned a long time ago that I cant help others if I cant manage my own life. Since I spend most of my time trying to keep the bills paid, rent, child support, and everything else I have to pick something I can do on the fly. I have friends on here who have dedicated their lives to helping people and animals. This is a quality they have that I adore personally. I think I am going to dedicate my time towards helping people stay warm this winter.
