A couple years back we had the owner of Guy Bicycle Shop as a guest speaker. I had thought it a good idea as weather was getting warm for us to have someone talk about Bicycling as it is a great way to get in shape and enjoy the outdoors. Bill DeFalco told me Bob is just the right person for this and he would ask him. Bob Burke came to talk to us and to my amazement he winded up being one of the better guest speakers we have had. Yes, he talked to us about bikes but more importantly he talked to us about his business motto. Since he took over the bike shop many years ago he told us he has a simple policy of only hiring people who are nice. He explained to us that he can teach someone many things about bicycles but he cannot teach nice. I remember someone asking him what if he gets a new person who slipped by and after hiring him/her he finds out they do not fit the nice person mold he models his staff after. He politely told us he has help people like this find another job. This year I visited Bob at his place and bought a bike from him. I have been a personal trainer for 30 years and have talked to many fitness people. Bob has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to bikes and how they work. He had me sample different ones and fitted me on a bike that is just right for me. We try are hardest to get guest speaker we can learn from.
