A cryptic question for a Thursday and one that perhaps our male clients should skip: What is cryptorchidism? It is a condition in which one or both of the dog’s testicles do not descend. The retained testicle/s need to be surgically removed to prevent testicular cancer or torsion. The procedure is complicated as the cryptorchid testicle may be difficult to locate and requires abdominal surgery. Cryptorchidism is hereditary and these dogs should not be used for breeding.
