A custom in Guatemala and Im guessing it might be traditional in many Hispanic cultures, is to greet a passerby with a friendly hello based on what time of day it is. Buenas Dias, Buenas Tardes, or Buenas Noches. I love this tradition. Its friendly, it allows you to give (and receive!) a smile and make a human connection with someone. While I still say hello to people more often than most, I get a lot of weird looks and silence. Having someone friendly on the other end of the transaction, even if it is a stranger, is really missed in my day to day life. Buenas Tardes Mis Amigos!
