A dairy cow drinks 20-50 GALLONS of water per DAY (according to a few dairy farm Q&As).. In a year thats anywhere from 7,300 - 18,000 gallons of water. A human needs only an avg. of 328 gallons a year (somewhere between .5 and 1 gallon of water). One cows daily water supply could give 54 people adequate water per day. Dairy farms start breeding cows after 5 years of age, after giving birth they produce milk for 12 - 18 months - they are typically kept alive for 15-20 years (in many cases their young are taken within days and stored in tight containers to be used as Veal). For a 20 year lifespan, a cow needs around 146,000 gallons of water. There are around 270M dairy cows in the world currently, they will require 4,860,000,000,000 gallons of water this year. Like I said before, for every 1 dairy cows water would hydrate 54 people - one years water supply for 270 cows would provide water for 14.6 Billion people (or the 7 Billion on our planet for 2 years). About Almond Milk, There are more than 6 types of plant based milks, but they arent necessary to drink on a daily basis. Its a replacer for people who miss the texture and taste, or are lactose intolerant. I have never used a plant based milk as a replacer for dairy in terms of nutrition, I get most of my vitamins from whole foods and vegetables and some supplements. I think we have a bigger water problem than calcium deficiency issue. Plus, Between 30 and 50 million Americans alone are lactose intolerant - so those 270,000,000 cows producing milk wont benefit them. In general, I think people need a lot less of both - a lot more water and raw whole foods.
