A day being Virgin Atlantic crew My alarm goes off at 7 am…and I jumpstart my day as I see off my daughter for school, and then get ready for my flight with a smile! Every time I wear my uniform, looking Red Hot, I’m filled with pride, representing a great brand like Virgin Atlantic. It makes me smile when i see people; children gaze up at me on my way to work. As I am an onboard manager, en route the airport I prepare the preflight briefing for my team of crew onboard motivating oneness and unity amongst a multicultural work force. Once on-board the aircraft, the pre-flight briefing is conducted, discussing Safety & Security with utmost importance. We start preparing the aircraft for passengers, and this is when our duties really just begin, completing our safety checks, taking handover for catering supplies, signing off cleaning, to commence boarding. Having been with Virgin Atlantic since the inaugural flight to Delhi, almost 12 years ago, I still get butterflies in my tummy before every flight, for the excitement of meeting new people and learning from them. After the take-off, the inflight services begin starting with drinks, meals, the afternoon tea and snacks, ice-cream during movies, the hot chocolate during night flights, over a span of nine hours. We are well equipped for keeping the little ones occupied throughout the flight with an exciting kids-pack. Throughout the service, the Virgin spirit is visible across, jokes floating around, enough laughter and tons of smiles. My favorite remains having some amazing interactions with our passengers from all walks of life. It’s great to hear their experiences and learn from them. From a movie star, to a politician, a hot model to a renowned doctor or a simple mother of 2 or a young tourists going on an unplanned voyage, moments spent with them chatting about their big or small things in life is mesmerizing. You can make friends so instantaneously onboard Virgin, it’s a gift. When approaching descent we secure and pack up the cabin for landing, by this time my feet are usually hurting. However the view outside the window on a clear summer day is spectacular enough to brighten you up. One can see the curves of river Thames, Millennium wheel, The Parliament, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, The Big Ben, it’s a breathtaking sight. On a winter evening the view of the whole city lit up, it’s absolutely stunning. We freshen up ourselves for a goodbye smile to our passengers, giving assisting those who may need it. It’s a luxury to be able to shop in London, the fashion capital of the world every week. And I love catching up on my sleep to re-energize myself for my daughter and Husband once back home. There’s never a dull moment in my life. When i hear friends and cousins talking about their jobs, I feel blessed to be a part of Virgin Atlantic, this employee/employer bond is unique and special, it’s built over the twelve years. I love watching my four year old imitating me; she makes me laugh when pretending to go for her flight as an air stewardess. Sharing the experience of a days work has been a reminder of the numerous reasons of loving the job i do and who i do it for. Recently, i was driving past the airport, headed to my parents’ house when i saw an aircraft land, my heart skipped a beat to the glorious majestic ship coming in to land, it had four red engines and the tail read, ‘Virgin’. The feel of belongingness was wonderful.
