A day in the life of a Winter Vac Student Suleymans Final - TopicsExpress

A day in the life of a Winter Vac Student Suleymans Final Thoughts I have learned a lot from my Winter Vacation Scheme at A&O and met many great people. I was so anxious entering the building on the first day and didn’t know what to expect. I was worried about the impression I would make and the work I would be doing. However, after a few ice breakers and lunch with our buddies I soon realised there was nothing to worry about. Everyone felt very down to earth and open. This was true of the Associates and Partners I met in the Corporate group. Within an hour of meeting my Trainer we were discussing festivals and our summer plans. This wasn’t what I expected from a Magic Circle firm! Feeling able to discuss all sorts of things with those around me was very welcome and allowed me to gain great insight into the culture and work at A&O. I think the people have been the best part of the scheme! Everyone from the Graduate Recruitment Team to the trainees and buddies all the way up to David Morley were open and chatty. This openness made the work so much more enjoyable because I was always given very clear instructions and always knew what to do. This in turn allowed me to better understand how my contribution mattered in relation to the deal I was working on. There was so much to focus on at times that I forgot that I was trying to secure a training contract! I think this is testament to the scheme in that it allowed me to be myself and act naturally in what felt like an very different environment when I first arrived. All in all it was a great experience and I was lucky enough to be offered a training contract on the back of my performance! I thoroughly enjoyed it all and look forward to working with all the great people I met very soon.
