A day of rest for the Rally Queens: The Kenya Airways Rally - TopicsExpress

A day of rest for the Rally Queens: The Kenya Airways Rally Queens have earned their day of rest! After four days and over 2000 kilometres of rallying Samira Khan and Chantal Young have a day off from rallying across the African bush today. And it also gives their dedicated mechanics the chance to give their Porsche 911 some much needed attention! The story of the 2013 East African Classic Safari has been how fast the sections have been. And with the increase in pace comes a higher degree of damaging your car on the rough sections. Samira and Chantal have done well to avoid any major dramas so far but on day four the girls did damage the steering when they hit a really nasty ditch. Today that was repaired and it also enabled the mechanics, headed by Pete Young, the chance to give the car a good spanner check! Samira; our mechanics are our heros. They work so hard to keep us in the rally and I really cannot thank them enough for all of their hard work! Today also gives Chantal and I a bit of a break, which is nice. It means I can rest my hand as it took a real whack in the ruts…. And I even broke a nail! Tomorrow the adventure continues as the crews head from Amboseli to Naivasha, covering a total of 346 kilometres! This includes a 116 kilometre competitive section right at the start of the day. Next up is a 46 kilometre section to Whistling Thorns before the crews tackle the famous Safari Rally stage from Corner Baridi to Suswa. And with rain expected it could make life interesting! The Kenya Airways Rally Queens are supported by ALS, Prince Lubricants, Kenauto, Highlands Water, Travellers Beach Resort, Dalbit Petroleum and Sclossbau as they tackle the 2013 East African Classic Safari Rally. This world famous event sees the 60 competing crews flagged off from the Sarova Whitesands Hotel on Thursday 21 November. The surviving crews will return to the hotel some nine days and 4 500 kilometres later, having visited far flung locations in Kenya and Tanzania. #EASC13 Pic courtesy of Mayes Media
