A day off that I dont usually have off; sugar-soft snow outdoors; a cup of fiery-peppered Mayan chocolate; ooooooold love songs and good poetry; a fountain pen and thick paper with an envelope. Im going to hand-write a letter, address it to the person I always address love letters to; and just to her by name, no address; seal it, stamp it, drop it in the post and let it go to the dead letter office. Someday, maybe someone will read it. Ill always wonder. A little mystery that can never be solved is sometimes a very, very good thing. In this case there will be two. Ill wonder if it will ever be read and someday, somewhere, someone may read it and wonder who I was. And who she was. There are days when its good to be a semi-retired, hopeless, hopeful, solitary romantic. This is one of them.
