A day on the mountain not for the fair weather walker, the day - TopicsExpress

A day on the mountain not for the fair weather walker, the day started with light rain getting heavier as the day went on, then came the winds gusting between 60 and 70 mph and hale driving into your face and finally if that wasn’t effort the decent through wet boggy ground, all in all a very wet day soaked to the skin. A trek up Ben Nevis, it started from the North Face car park just off the A82, a nice spot in the woods, as we climbed out of the woods onto opened moorland the track followed the river up the valley to a mountain hut. After a quick stop for a drink and a snack we headed up to start the Ledge route for the first scramble of the day, after this section we found ourselves on the plateau looking for the tourist track up to the summit of Ben Nevis. With the weather bad (low cloud, visibility poor – same as Large Outdoors trip last year) we decided on a very quick before heading down to the CMD Arête once on the ridge with the wind gusting we picked our way along stopping at some of the exposed parts for the wind to drop before crossing and eventually reaching the summit of Carn Mòr Dearg. The decent back to the car park was so different to the rest of walk, walking on soft boggy ground easy on the knees. Time 8 hour 30 minutes To wet for photos, These were borrowed from goggle images. I must thank Jamie Bankhead for a great day walking and restoring my impression of Ben Nevis.
