A day that started out sunny and nice, turned into a day that was - TopicsExpress

A day that started out sunny and nice, turned into a day that was cloudy and blustery, but it did not deter the riders who came out to ride in our show. Our shows are always a bit unconventional. We have students who share the same horse in the same class, we have classes that you would not find at most shows, and we do not require our students to dress in proper show attire. Some people would most likely laugh at our shows. We however think they are a great introduction to showing. They are a no pressure, low cost way for students to get a taste of what showing is like. It lets them practice the skills they learn in their lessons, while providing them with some friendly competition. The informal atmosphere does not take away from the competitive nature of the riders. Everyone watches everyone else. They all want that blue ribbon! Our unconventional class for the day was a mounted quizz. Riders advanced around the ring to the next dressage letter by answering a true or false question correctly. A correct answer moved you to the next letter, an incorrect answer kept you standing. All questions were geared to the level of the riders in the ring at the time. With true/false questions even if you really dont know the answer you at least have a fifty, fifty chance of guessing it right. On horseback even taking a quiz can be fun. At Dun-Pikin we strive to teach not just riding, but horsemanship. We always encourage all of our students to attend our Camps, and Fun Days. This is the time we have with our students to teach all the other stuff. Colors, breeds, markings, vital signs, parts of the horses and tack and on, and on, and on. Knowing this stuff helped a few out today. Fancy clothes dont make a show. Creating classes can make it more interesting, and the low cost makes for happier parents. What is there to laugh at right? We have fun, we are unconventional, we do everything as safe as possible, and we are affordable. What more could you want? Come Ride With Us!
