A day with Jesus: John 1:35-42 35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples, 36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, behold the Lamb of God! 37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38 Then Jesus turned, and saw them following , and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou? 39 He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour. 40 One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messiah which is being interpreted, the Christ. 42 And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou are Simon the son of Jona, thou shalt be called Cephas, which by interpretation, A stone. When I read the bible, I always try to ask myself, What does this say about my life? How can I apply what I am reading to make my life bring Glory to Christ’s name? Do you look at your reading that way? So what does these scriptures from the book of John speak to you and your life? Lets take a look at how it spoke to me. On Sunday’s, I see a lot of posts and I hear many comments about, tomorrow is Monday again, time to face another Monday, I don’t want to get up in the morning. Is that you? Are you a morning person? Do you dread waking up and starting another long grueling day? Look at verses 35 and 36. The next day when John the Baptist stood he looked upon Jesus and said Behold, the Lamb of God! How do you start your day? If you follow the example set by John the Baptist, the first thing he did when he awoke, or stood as it says in this verse, is to look upon Jesus. Is Jesus your first thought in the morning? Do you praise His name first thing in the morning like John did? I have tried to start applying this to my life. I wake up in the mornings now and only think of Jesus first, I praise His name for giving me another wonderful day and I seek Him to help me through the day, as it is only by his strength that I can do it. So now you have spent time with Jesus and are praising His name, giving Him glory and honor. Then what happens. Verse 37 says two of John’s disciples heard John praise the name of Jesus and they followed Him! Praising Him and following Him is a good witness to others. So does your life, your actions, your words, show others Jesus? Do they look at you and say, I want to follow who he is following? Then as the two disciples are seeking Jesus to follow Him, Jesus answers them and says what are you seeking? The disciples, John and Andrew, respond that they want to know where he dwellest. Jesus tells them to follow Him and they did and spent the day with Him. Do you want to spend all your time with Jesus? Are you seeking Jesus? He is answering you, He is telling you to come and follow Him, let Him touch you today and start a new life with Him. What happens next? Do you remember when Jesus came into your life and you were saved? What did you do? Did you want to run and tell your brothers and testify who Jesus is and what He has done? Look at verse 41, and what Andrew did. He first went to his own brother and said I have found the Messiah, the Christ. Look Peter, he has touched me, he has changed me. Do you want to know him to? Now look at what happens next. Verse 42, Andrew brings Peter to Jesus. And Jesus told Simon who he was, and he gave him a new name. He changed him. Do you try to bring others to Jesus? Do you want to let others know about Him? So if we are following the example set before us by the first disciples, we are spending each day seeking the Kingdom of Jesus. We are rising in the morning looking upon Jesus and blessing His name, the Lamb of God. We are allowing our lives to be a testimony to Him. We are constantly seeking His Kingdom, his dwelling place and longing to spend the entire day with Him. We are anxious to tell our brothers about the wonderful things He has done for us throughout the day. And lastly we are fervently wanting to bring others to Him so that they can experience His presence and ask Him into their lives and hear Him say, Thou art Michael but thou shalt now be called a child of Christ. Do you hunger to have your day be like that? I do!!!!! God Bless!
