A day with family is always a good one. A day in church is always - TopicsExpress

A day with family is always a good one. A day in church is always a good one. So today was extra good. This morning our little church celebrated what we call Katrina Sunday. The year that Hurricane Katrina blew through our area, many trees, power lines, and cell phone towers were felled by the strong winds. Without power and phone communication, we saw neighbors checking on each other and looking after one another and cutting trees away from and off of homes. We helped each other. And when Sunday came, it would have been so easy to stay at home and clean up more hurricane debris. However, church members, who could safely navigate their way, gathered at our church and worshiped God on the covered deck beside our fellowship hall. This was the coolest spot as there was no power, thus no air conditioning, inside the sanctuary. This spot was cool and tranquil with only the sounds of Gods creation for background praise music. We praised God and thanked Him for keeping our community safe during the storm. It was a moving and meaningful worship time for all in attendance, so much so that we made it a tradition. After a year or so, we added a breakfast time prior to the outdoor service. This gives us time to fellowship while cooking and then eating a delicious breakfast meal together. This morning, before breakfast, it was discovered that yellow jackets had also decided the coolness and tranquility offered by the deck was a wonderful place to be. We quickly agreed that for this one Katrina Sunday the yellow jackets could hold their own worship service, free of humans, in their nest underneath the deck. We would be content to be inside and away from their nasty stingers. After a good breakfast and fellowship time, Bro. Mike Sims delivered a powerful message on healing and faith. At the end of the service, when he offered to lay hands on and anoint with oil any who desired so, I practically flew to his side. I wanted and needed this so much. He prayed for healing, faith, strength, and emotional stability for me. He prayed for my family and my doctors, nurses, and technicians. I know God heard! I know he was there! I could feel it! I still feel it! Im grateful for a pastor who listens to God and obeys His nudging to do a service like this. There were two of us who felt Gods hand taking hold of our right hands and leading us in this anointing and laying on of hands. Katrina Sunday, a day to thank God for His care and protection not only during a weather storm, but all the storms of our lives. Katrina Sunday will forever be even more meaningful for me!
