A dialogue on saved or being saved: A brother wrote me today asking a question on salvation; here it is (posted with his permission). Hector: hey, whats your thoughts on 1 Corinthians 1:18 where it says to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. It makes it sound like were not fully saved and still being saved. Whats ur thoughts on it? Eric: We were, are, are being and will be saved. Salvation is objectively given once and for all as a gift, but the subjective working out (manifesting) of salvation (wholeness of life in Abba, Jesus and Holy Spirit) is being experienced by us as going from glory to glory. Everything is there; we are enjoying the unwrapping of the gift until the ultimate is fully experienced. The writer of Hebrews states, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him (9:28). Notice also that the temporal context of the surrounding verses. In this life, there is the appearance of those who are perishing because they have not accepted the cross and those who are being saved because they have accepted the cross. This is really focusing on aspect of the here and now, especially for those who are perishing. It does not necessarily mean that they have not objectively been given salvation. It also does not mean that after they perish, it is the end of them or that they are eternally damned. The text simply does not say that. There is a lot more going on in the mystery of salvation than we have imagined. Hector: We have fullness in Him, and we get to bloom fullness as we awaken to Him in us. Great metaphor! Heb. 10: 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. (the mysterious joy of the kingdom dialectic, perfect-ed and being sanctified.) Enjoy!
