A different new year greeting that I received today from Kashmir. So poignant and touching. Withholding just the name and identity of the sender. Life is like that. .................................................................................... Dear Shaji, First of all accept New Year greetings from me. Hope your are fine. As you might be knowing - the devastating floods that inundated Kashmir in September last year has caused large scale damage to life and property. I had no access to the internet to write to you. I remember very clearly the day water entered the ground floor of my house and I have to take my parents out and wander for safety for days together. After waters receded, I realised the extent of damage caused by floods. When we returned back I found my house was damaged beyond repair. Water entered in our locality abruptly and it was not a flood prone area. The water damaged belongings, furniture, beddings, books and even my laptop. Its been a tough time. We had to dismantle the house, as officials declared it unsafe. So I was very much busy overseeing the dismantling work. Now we are planing to construct the house in April. We have suffered a huge loss and now have to start afresh from scratch. But the most important thing is that by the grace of God and your wishes, I am safe along with my family. Now I have access to internet and phone. I am hopeful things would begin to improve soon.
