A dilemma. This video is about an important subject, the firing last week of Ari Roth, longtime director of one of Washington DCs more important drama venues. He was terminated for not attenuating his desire to reflect reality in the Israel/Palestine dispute. Rather than ignore that reality, or toe some sort of Israel-friendly red line, he chose to mount challenging plays and events. Not many Alaskans or Americans even know about this firing, and if they did, they probably wouldnt attach much importance to it. But it is important. Partly because it is the most recent example of a Jewish liberal being removed from a position at which he performed brilliantly, merely because he (or she, in some cases) refused to accept a paradigm that acknowledgement of the horror of the Nakba and consideration of that is wrong. Roth and others take a different view. Tony Kushner, a director and dramatist who has had many encounters with the borg that slew Roth, contributed to this video, posted at the end of the week. However, the videos contributing agent seems to ask me not to post it. Not sure why, but this is an important moment in fine arts dialogue in our country. So - Im posting it. I hope none of those who stand in solidarity with Mr. Roth suffer career diminution for their open honesty.
