A dramatic finish in Marlay Park this afternoon as the Under 16s - TopicsExpress

A dramatic finish in Marlay Park this afternoon as the Under 16s overcame Lucan United with a winner in the dying seconds. With the game tied at 1-1, and Rovers pressing hard to maintain their winning run, Ben Davidson found himself free on the right and he angled a brilliant cross behind the visiting defence for Yohan Confavreux (I have finally spelt his name right!), who ghosted in at the far post to hammer home from just six yards out. It was a deserved three points for Rovers who started brightly and carved out some excellent chances early on. It took eighteen minutes to make the breakthrough when Ian Leavey was on the end of a cross from the right to ease the ball past the keeper. Rovers were unlucky with efforts from Paddy Maughan and Aaron Bradshaw while Yohan forced the keeper into a terrific save with a shot destined for the bottom right corner. Gradually though, Lucan fought their way into the game and Aaron Hunt had to be at his best to keep them at bay. Aaron had no chance however in the 36th minute when Lucan equalised after a well worked passing move. Rovers came out in the second half with more purpose but could not break the visitors down and Lucan were very dangerous on the break. Ian Leavey struck the bar with a fierce shot and Yohan, Aaron Bradshaw and Conor Saunders all went close from distance. But Rovers finally clinched the game with that dramatic finish. Excellent performance all round with Aaron Bradshaw in particular outstanding in midfield.
