A family of VETERANS. In the first photo, all the men in the back row are veterans-my Dad, Hubert Witte, served in the European theatre in WWII, his brother, Ray Witte was a submarine commander and began his career in WWII in the Pacific, his son Gary Witte served in Viet Nam, their brother-in-law Val Elbon served in the Pacific in the Navy-his son, Dan Elbon standing to his left served in the Army. My Grandfather was between wars but was a tire worker in Akron, Ohio for the war effort. Not pictured is rays second son, Byron, who served in Viet Nam. All have now gone on to Heaven except Dad and Dan.(2nd and 3rd photos) On my mothers side, her brother-in-law, Ralph Queen, served in the Navy in WWII in the Pacific theatre. Her brother George Djurisich-a first generation American-served in the Army. Not pictured is her brother-also first generation American, Mike Durich, who served in Korea. All the remaining pictures are direct paternal grandfathers. The next 4 photos are our Civil War vets. John Wesley Hensley served in the US navy on the USS Keresage, Sam Bell Wright served in the Confederate army, Harvey G. Sampson served in the Confederate Army, Josiah Jarvis fought for the Confederacy. The next photo is the grave of a direct paternal grandfather John Jarvis who fought in the American Revolution; other grandfathers who served in the Revolution are Adam OBrien, Dr. George C. Connolly, Andrew Wright, Levan Nichols, Thomas Cottrell, Sr., and Chrisley Hensley. OUR NEWEST AMEMBER, WHO IS ACTIVELY SERVING IS PO 2 BENJAMIN R. HOLMES IS STATIONED ON THE USS CARL VINSON AND THIS MEMORIAL DAY IS SOMWHERE IN THE PACIFIC.
