Since first gaining international recognition for his coverage of the Vietnam War, he has been celebrated for his reporting from Cambodia, Biafra, Palestine and East Timor. Between these dispatches he has always returned to his country of birth, Australia, to document its inhuman treatment of the Aborigine nation.
