A fellow non-believer is asking about her fear of eternal torment - TopicsExpress

A fellow non-believer is asking about her fear of eternal torment in hell if it turns out to be real. I cant speak for her, but I can speak for myself and the contradictions of the very definition of God: I wouldnt want to live with an alleged God who allegedly is burning billions of non-believers in an eternal lake of fire..... such a god would not only be insecure and cruel, but more evil than Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, etc., all men who the alleged God created in his own image. Hell is an easy notion to sell belief - by threat of torment and by reward if you believe. The fact is, that many believers are very hypocritical and support soldiers who kill in the name of nationalism and patriotism although their God commands Thy shall not kill - no ifs, ands, or buts - So while were going down the road of fantasy and superstitious belief, that road would take all Christian straight to hell also....and no loving person would want anything to do with such a godeven if it were real. To do good under threat of punishment is really not an honest path to morality. Dogs behave based on reward and punishment, us humans should know better through the nurturing instinct and simply treating others as they wish. The golden rule states Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. But others may not like what we like, so the better rule is to treat others as they would like to be treated, as far as it is within our power, and, moreover, to simply not treat people as they do *not* want to be treated. By definition, hell, which by definition is created by an all powerful creator breaks the highest tenets of goodness and morality.
