A few Endowment statistics-- Yale University- $ 23.9; Stanford- $ 21.4; MIT- $ 12.4 billion, Columbia University- $ 8.2 billion, Cornell University -$ 5.7 billion and so on. Please look at the figures closely; very, very closely. They are in billion and that too in US dollars. The majority of the contribution comes from Alumni, who not only pledge huge sums to their Alma Mater, but many a times, they contribute in several other ways. They employ bright students in their companies, recommend them to their friends and fund them in the hour of need. This results into a supreme confidence among the students. The confidence leads to innovation. And above all, a bonding! Come back to BIT Mesra Alumni. How many of us have ever thought of contributing and supporting our Alumni and Alma Mater? At one end, we go on cherishing and relishing our BIT days, connect with our batchmates, go for dinner and then part after sometime to get drowned in our humdrum of life. In no time after dinner, which you and I, while sipping a scotch in the club house with fellow BITans and travelled in the corridor of BIT, let the memory evaporate in no time, after seeing off each others in the parking lot. A recent post in BIT Mesra brought out a chilling fact. The students, who were building sports car of the standards of Formula One, are running short of fund. The Administrator of our own college did not provide Rs. 50,000/- to a very bright student to present his paper in an International conference. There are many stories--told; untold. I appeal to my entire fraternity, all Alumni to make a humble beginning. Lets not only pat our success or the rising of our batchmates or glory of our children, but our time has come to be mentor of our young boys and girls of our own BIT Mesra. Ive pledged Rs. 50,000/- yesterday. Today, Im increasing it to $ 1.000 (Converted as Rs. 61,000/-) to have a corpus of Alumni Fund for Students. Trust me, its a small sum for any one of us, who will pledge to contribute similar amount and alass a greater sum! Why do I say it to be a small sum for us? Isnt it equivalent to two bottles of perfumes bought at Champs-Élysées Street of Paris or five packet of delicious Belgian chocolate or may be one third of the price of an Armani suit or just one-tenth of a price of a Mont Blanc limited edition pen. If ten thousands of we, the BITan come forward, the total corpus generated would be about Rs. 6.10 Crore. The yearly interest accrued on this fund would be more than 60 lac. The money will continue to grow with initial corpus, further endowment and interest, which will cater to our students to do innovation, present their papers at international conferences, and do unimaginable things. Also appeal to the current boys and girls of BIT. You dont have to contribute thousand dollars, but each one of you will contribute Rs. 51/- in the corpus. You are part of our this pilgrimage.
