A few broad-strokes notes: As far as gameplay, the bulk of the game is going to be a 2D shooter (similar to Cybernator or Front Mission: Gun Hazard) featuring RPG elements and gun upgrade stuff, using video capture of a live-action actor, like Mortal Kombat. Thats what Im thinking so far, at least. There is an accessory slot (like an amulet/ring) for coolers which are cigarettes. Depending on the type of cooler, youll get a different passive status effect, e.g. Hi-Nic Coolerz will boost your speed a little bit, whereas Juicy Smootherz might slightly increase the rate at which health is restored. The damage system is intricate, and when you open your trench-coat inventory youll also see a full body MRI showing exactly which organs are damaged and how dead you are. Most of the time youll just bleed out, but as thats happening youll have the opportunity to kill a few more people or perhaps yourself if you so choose (why not?). Im thinking it would be cool to be able to play as multiple characters (for example, as the artificial intelligence inside a virtual environment) but that might be too much work. Joyride has to have an absolutely epic scope, so to keep things doable, the graphics are going to have to be real shit... Like well beyond kitschy retro and into the realm of this is just bad... Commodore 64 colors on mostly black.. The screen will be mostly black most of the time, and sprites will be little more than abstract shapes on the screen... quite possibly. Trying to think of a system for money that doesnt rip off Fallouts bottle caps. Im thinking scratch tickets will be money, and the value is determined by the prize on the ticket. So youll be spending $50,000 minimum for small items. Enemies dropping $5M tickets. How much do you have? How much what, chizz? Screed? In between levels the game changes format and youll be playing a choose-your-own-adventure, sorta like Mad Maze, that will determine which level you play next. You can go underground, at which point the game turns into a dungeon crawler (with all your stats and equipment carrying over as best as possible).
