A few complaints via private message prompt this explanation regarding my once-a-day links to holiday songs through December 25. Ive done this for the last five years because I like Christmas music, and its fun to post links suggested by others as the month progresses. Not everyone likes these links, of course, for a variety of reasons. We all have our preferences. I dont like links to photo streams making fun of low-income shoppers at Walmart, for example. So, I dont click on them. I also dont like smugness on either end of the religion spectrum. Those who want to force their version of God onto others are just as annoying as those who declare anyone with faith to be a fool. In both instances, I am challenged to be nicer than I want to be in response. Once again, I offer my moms take: Being a Christian means fixing yourself and helping others, not the other way around. At 56, Im still a fixer-upper, so I wont be offering to remodel your beliefs anytime soon. Todays complaints have ranged from disgust that the David Bowie link disrespected traditional faith to disappointment that I believe in God because I seemed smarter than that. I dont get the David Bowie criticism, as he never looked more traditional than in that clip. As for the latter criticism, I cry foul, fellow liberals.
