A few days ago I mentioned that I was going to do something special with the Song of the Day posts in the week leading up to Xmas. And here it is: While it could be exponentially easy for me to do nothing but post Christmas songs throughout the week, but admit it, youve heard all of them already on every radio station, doctors office, supermarket, bank, party, parade, auction, police hearing etc. Instead, I wanna play you guys something you havent heard, and something that screams, Jacob Witmer showed me this. Throughout their career, the Beatles made a series of exclusive Christmas records for their Fan Club. Originally just a holiday message to the fans, they became a yearly tradition until the bands breakup in early 1970. Listening to them in order is a fascinating experience. You can actually hear the bands progression through the simple pop group of the early years, to the psychedelic experimentation of their middle period, to the divided artists at the end. And throughout the week, Im going to be playing each one. We begin with The Beatles Christmas Record of 1963. As mentioned before, this one is a simple scripted message from the band to their fans at the end of their most successful year (at the time). The Beatles have had their first taste of fame, yet no one will be prepared for the whirlwind thats about to come in 1964. Favorite line: Hello, this is John speaking with his voice. youtu.be/eZLYO0H65E0
