A few days ago, I rented and watched the reboot of one of my old favs, Robocop. A cop transformed into a cyborg for the Detroit Police by a ruthless organization aimed at coercing the govt to allow them to sell robots for their own profit. Robocop, goes through personal, public and family acceptance, fights crime and seeks revenge. It also has Gary Oldman & Michael Keaton in it. I have to admit, this wasnt a bad movie. It was good for this time as robots and cyborgs are too common in movies now, it was a new fascination when the original robocop came out. But i also have to admit that this wasnt at all as good as the old one. The first robocop was very dark, very rated R, too violent and a movie you will never forget, especially how officer Alex Murphy was almost killed, one of the most brutal assassination scenes i remember seeing in movies. But the dark theme, the music, how random commercials and news bits within the first robocop smartly convinced you how corrupt the world has become and how dangerous Detroit is, the new movie had none of that. It was focused too much on family, on robocop as a machine, and murphy getting used to his new body, but it is forgettable. This was a sleeker and better looking and better performing robocop but the movie wasnt as good. The violence wasnt bad, the fighting sequences were good, special affects were commendable, Khan gives it a B-.
