A few days ago my mother went and saw her oncologist. My mother is a Breast Cancer survivor and each day she wakes up and takes an anti-hormone pill in hopes that the cancer will never return and her smile will. Anti-hormones take away what may kill you, but also can take away what makes one happy… their SMile. Anyway, a few days ago my mother had to see her oncologist and as she was leaving he said to her, “Now, the hopes in all this is that the cancer will never return again, because if it does… and spreads to the rest of your body… you will die.” Now, I’m sure her doctor didnt mean it to sound so “truthful”, but because he said it, it made my mother think out loud, and as she was sharing her thoughts with me I also noticed that, (for the first time in a very long time) it showed her the value of time, and within a minute our conversation went from talking about the “what if” of her life to …. “Gina, would you like to stay for dinner. We could chat?” “Yes, mom.” “Gina, would you like to come over and we can make cookies with the grandchildren like we always do?” “Yes, mom.” “Gina, would you like to get together and watch holiday movies?” “I would love that, mom!” Yesterday I went to my mother’s home and we made Halloween cookies and it was during the baking of the cookies where I realized that “once upon a time” I too was told that I may only have a short amount of time to live, and it was because of that moment where I became a “TIME TRAVELER”. What is a Time Traveler? A Time Traveler is someone who understands the value of time on earth and chooses to spend their time traveling to spend time with those they love, because when someone is told they may only have a short amount of time to live... some of us immediately what to spend that time with the ones we love. AND… we continue “onward” until the day we die. The reason I wanted to share the story of a “Time Traveler” is maybe we don’t have to be told that we’re sick and dying or could get sick again and die to find what we’re looking for in life, because I believe the most important thing to find are the moments that we spend with those we love, because in the end… that’s all any of us are going to remember anyway. Onward to looking forward to the holiday movies with my mother, because it’s not the movies that makes the holidays, but the time watching them with the one I love!
