A few days ago the engine light came on in the car - not the maintenance required light but the one that meant take car to dealer now. With an upcoming transport to Las Vegas with 4 precious little 4-legged lives, we thought it important to make sure the car would not break down in the middle of the desert. So, the dealer has had the car now for 24 hours and called with the diagnosis. A mouse (or mice) has taken up residency in the engine compartment and decided to chew on some very important wires which connect to the brain of the car. They have to remove the manifold (whatever that is) and replace those wires and reset the computer. He said if they remove the manifold and theres more damage there or under there, then that is a big problem. So far, wire fix only? $591.00 is the best case scenario. Not happy about this AT ALL and I guess this is what we get for having 2,000lbs of dry dog food in the garage. I suppose we should be counting our blessings that the mice or meece havent gotten ahold of the bagged food. So now I am looking into barn owl boxes. Apparently those little ghost-white owls can eat up to 2,000 rodents (rats, mice, groundhogs, squirrels, pack rats) a year. Sorry to anyone who feels bad for the little wire-eating, disease carrying rodents, but since we recently spent $325 for an exterminator to get a single rat out of the attic, and now with a possible $600-$1,000 bill for the car, Im out for (rodent) blood.
