A few days ago we showed you Lurch who had the largest horn circumference ever recorded. Today we present to you one of our very own record holders from Queensland... meet the Texas Longhorn JR who holds the record for the worlds longest horns!! JR was born on January 3, 2005 and at an early age he showed exceptional horn growth. Once we knew that he was going to be something special we measured his horns regularly and the rate of growth was amazing. We decided in 2011 to see how he stood up against the beast that held the Guinness World Record (another Texas Longhorn) and decided to submit an application. After obtaining a verified measurement of his horns we submitted the claim to Guinness World Records in London and eventually we received the certificate that stated he was the new Guinness World Record holder. His photo and details are in the 2013 Guinness World Records book where his horns measured 109.1inches or 2.77metres.” JR’s horns now measure more than 9ft 6ins or 2.90 metres tip to tip and he is the star attraction at Leahton Parks - Texas Longhorn Wagon Tours. Even though he has suffered some damage to the tips of his horns, they are still growing. JR is part of Horseshoe B Longhorns, the largest herd of full blood Texas Longhorns in Australia. The herd was established by Michael and Lynda Bethel in 1996 and is situated at Leahton Park, 10km north of Charters Towers. All cattle are either registered with the International Texas Longhorn Association or Texas Longhorns Australia. The Bethels decided in 2009 that their Longhorn herd would make an interesting tourist attraction and so Texas Longhorn Wagon Tours was started. Since commencing operations the attraction that features horse drawn wagon rides showcasing the Longhorn herd has drawn media interest from major television shows and has attracted visitors from all over Australia and overseas.
