A few folks have messaged to ask what’s up with the Kalamari!!/calamari stuff. Well, it has to do with Greek legend. Sort of. Soooo . . . “Kalimera” is Greek for “Good Morning.” Sounds a bit like “calamari,” doesn’t it? A recent visitor to a Greek Island arrived at her lodging in the middle of the night. When she got up to head to a conference session that morning she was told to simply walk “down the hill to Thea’s.” When she got outside she realized she was on top of a mountain and there were virtually infinite “down the hill” possibilities. She finally chose a path that went downhill. And wound up on the patio of some people who were just arising for the day. Thinking the best thing to do after intruding upon their patio was to offer a greeting, she smiled and said brightly in her caffeine deprived state, “Calamari!” They stared blankly. So she asked, “Thea?” Now, mind you, “Thea” is Greek for “Goddess.” Then, I . . . I mean, SHE tried a few other words, but they spoke no English. She happened upon several patios, greeting everyone with “Calimari,” and asking for Thea. She wandered through yards, patios, and goat pastures until she finally stumbled upon Thea’s. As she relayed the story of her traumatic morning to fellow conference goers, they roared with laughter. And somewhere on an island in the Aegean Sea, villagers are telling the story of the odd American lady who once roamed the island in search of an octopus and a Goddess.
