A few highlights from the first few days of the Sunbird Cuba Tour - TopicsExpress

A few highlights from the first few days of the Sunbird Cuba Tour with Stuart. Starting off in the Pinar del Rio region, about 3 hours west of Havana, we visited Cuevas de Los Portales (Che Guevaras caves). Here we enjoyed superb views of Cuban Solitaire, Cuban Trogon, Scaly-naped Pigeon and the first of many La Sagras Flycatchers. Moving on to Hacienda Cortina we were treated to great views of Giant Kingbird, West Indian and Cuban Green Woodpeckers and the ultra rare Fernadinas Flicker amongst the Royal Palm Trees (Cubas national tree). We also enjoyed prolonged views of Antillean Palm Swift, Western Spindalis, both Yellow-headed and Olive-capped Warblers and the ultra-cute Cuban Tody - look at the those flanks - just how pink can a birds feathers get? The next few days will see us travel over 700km to Camaguey, for more special birds which include a number of Cuban endemics. Pics of the Trogon, Tody and Fernandinas Flicker attached and images of many more special birds to follow.
