A few months ago, Trina Fletcher and I had the pleasure of speaking to Miss Howard University Tamekia-terin Taylor about her hope of better serving the girls and women of Washington, DC. Although she is from California, she was eager to do as much as she could outside of her campus. We wondered to ourselves if she had the time to serve her campus and the community? If, at 20, could she balance school, a speaking tour and other projects she presented. Well, did she prove us wrong. Tomorrow, Miss Howard will speak to the young ladies at Anacostia Senior High School and next month she will speak at Ballou High School and Capital City Public Charter School (thanks to Laina Cox). This is in addition to an event she hosting for teenage girls in need next Sunday. I share these stories every now and then because I want people to know the power of mentoring. If you have a skill, share it. If you have a gift, give it. Trina and I mentor because we realize that passing the torch is integral to the future of our communities. Take the time to inspire and assist those who want to do more for others. You can make a difference. We promise.
