A few observations regarding time: (1) In Tonga everyone goes to church on Sunday, including SDA. Initially the day of the week that is now Sunday was taken to be Saturday; later on there was a change to the date line, so the day of the week that was Saturday became Sunday. SDA believers have continued to observe the day that was originally deemed to be Saturday as their Sabbath day. This seems to me to illustrate (at least for some parts of the globe) a degree of arbitrariness in the deeming of the day that is the seventh/first day of the week. (2) The Sabbath day goes from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday. The days/nights (sunset/sunrise) in the north/south poles last half a year. Does this mean that someone who is in the north/south pole is not subject to the requirement to observe a weekly Sabbath? This is no longer hypothetical, for there are scientists and adventurers who spend lengthy periods of time in the poles. (3) If the requirement to observe a weekly Sabbath is universal and for all time, what will happen when believers (after the second coming of Christ when they inherit the Earth for eternity) travel to other solar systems and universes with (presumably) different reckoning and time measurements of their days; will they be subject to the Earthly Sabbath? (4) How do we reconcile Einstein theory of relativity (time being subject to speed) with the requirement to observe a weekly Sabbath?
