A few of our viewers have come up with a fantastic way to support smaller shelters that are doing great work but arent able to reach enough people online to win a prize in the Shelter Challenge. LOVE it! Read the original post from Faith N. for details: * * * * * * * As most of us are aware, its Shelter Challenge time and everyones drumming up the votes. However well the various prizes are spread around, however, they cannot reach as many small corners as well all can. One of our viewers, Jerseycat, has proposed a Local Shelter Challenge, suggesting we try to generate $10,000 worth of donations/volunteer time for our local shelters. Jerseycat has offered to keep track for us - all money, items, and time go to your shelter and you simply email what youve done to be added to the total. Im in, how about you? Heres the actual proposal with email address: *** Purrfect Pals is well on its way to winning the Shelter Challenge again (KEEP VOTING!). But lets not forget our local shelters and rescue organizations. The Honey & Peter Society announces the Local Shelter Challenge. Lets raise a total of $10,000 for local shelters. I will start the ball rolling with a pledge of $25 for my local shelter. Email me your pledge at thejerseycat@gmail. I will keep track of the pledged donations, and let you know when we reach our goal. If you dont have a local shelter youre confident is no-kill, Ayshela has suggested nokillnetwork.org as a good resource for finding one. Donations need not be in the form of cash, though. Shelters can always use old towels and blankets, and could probably even put old bathrobes to good use! If you donate items like this to your local shelter, tell me what youve donated and how many, and Ill keep count. Shelters also use a lot of cleaning supplies. If you shop at a place like Costco and find a good deal on paper towels or bleach, let me know what you donate, how many rolls or how many gallons, and Ill keep count of that as well. If youre shopping for your own pets and you pick up some extra kitty litter or cat food (or dog food -- sure, why not?) that you donate to a shelter, tell me how many cans of food or how many pounds of kitty litter, and Ill let everyone know how that adds up. And, finally, you generous souls who volunteer at shelters, tell me how much time you donate, and lets see how many hours you folks are dedicating to such a good cause. Honey & Peter, and the other lost kittens and puppies, have taught us that little things matter. Together, our small contributions can make a big difference.
