A few people have asked me about how I came to be shot in the face. So, I wrote this little synopsis... It was August 1, 1990. Myself (age 17) and 3 other friends (18, 19, 20) went camping in Eleven Mile Resevoir. We arrived at about midnight and set up camp and then partied until about 3am. We awoke the morning of the second at about 10. After breakfast, we started to party again. Each of us had our own case of beer. There was also a Ruger .22 pistol, but the clip was missing--each round had to be manually loaded. We played with my bow-and-arrow set, then began to shoot random objects with the pistol. 2 of the guys there went to go see about finding other objects to shoot at--I said no shooting the glass bottles. They walked about 50 paces forward and were obscured by the forest. The other guy was behind me by about 10 feet. As I was turning around (at my waist), beer in hand, to say something to him, he was raising the pistol. When I was turned looking at him, he pulled the trigger and shot me in the face. Had I not turned around, he would have shot me in the back of the head and I would not be alive now. I spun around and went down to the ground with my hands over my face. I felt a sting just under the inside of my left eyebrow, then a surge of heat across my forehead. I thought I had gotten dirt in my eyes. When I uncovered my face, my hands were covered in blood and there was a steady drip coming from my face. It was then that I realized I had been shot in the face. Contrary to the story given at the time, this was no accident. That is the story in short form...Christopher Helton
