A few people have been very offended recently with some of my Facebook posts because I have brought up the doctrines of hell, judgement and similarly uncomfortable topics. Some have called me a fire and brimstone evangelical bent on condemning unbelievers to a cruel God of punishment. This is obviously a massive area of discussion, but I wanted to say briefly that if you follow the ministry of Jesus, Paul, Peter, even lovey dovey John in the New Testament you will note that these difficult doctrines come up regularly, all unpacked through the lens of the cross. God is a holy God and a perfect Father who LOVES us ALL unconditionally and wants us ALL reconciled to Him through the shed blood of His Son Jesus. We are justified purely and simply through repentance and faith - the child-like, humble, complete surrender of our hearts to Jesus. ALL are invited! But we must accept His invitation and go His way, not ours. Our sin killed Jesus and left unpardoned, it will damn us. I do not relay these truths (and they are foundational truths, they will happen) from a place of condemnation but a place of saving love, in order to wake up a very sleepy and nominally religious western world to the reality of eternity and to ensure that as many people as possible are born again, filled with the Holy Spirit and ready for paradise! But I make no apology for shaking a few cages, the gospel is both wonderful and offensive. I wish my cage had been shaken much earlier in my life. Christmas is very good news. Call out to Jesus this advent! You might find you have such a strong encounter with His fiery love that you become an alarm clock evangelist yourself. We certainly need a few! I hope that conveys my heart a little more - check out the bible for yourselves, read the book of Acts in the presence of the Holy Spirit, lets measure orthodoxy from there.
