A few times in the last week or two (enough for me to notice), I - TopicsExpress

A few times in the last week or two (enough for me to notice), I was asked what I want to be doing, or where I want to be in the future. There are goals that I set for myself, but I guess maybe they are not seen as ambitious or following the trajectory of success that we are supposed to follow. For example, when I left my job of nearly 5 years at Sakewewak in Regina to move to Toronto, for my last couple of years there, all of my co-workers, as well as the board of directors who governed the organization were all Indigenous women. As well, I can safely say that the 2/3 of artists that I programmed there were also Indigenous women. As of right now, the place where I am currently contracted, the co-workers I see every day are women, and again, a board of directors comprised of all women. I am active in 3 collectives - apart from me, they are currently all comprised of Indigenous women and women of color. I am thankful for their trust and love and inclusion. For me, working to earn that trust and respect from Indigenous women, and women of color is both an ongoing life goal and quantifier of success for what I do. Its just also the kind of world I want to live in.
