A few tips on performing the leg extension exercise effectively. 1) Control the movement through the eccentric movement (lowering). This not only places more stress on the muscle fibres but can help prevent patella Tendinopathies. 2) Focus on where your toes are pointing during lifting. If you notice your toes are automatically turning in, although one section of the quadriceps cant be solely isolated, the majority of work will be going through the vastus lateralis (outside of the quads). This may indicate you have a weakness in the vastus medialis. Keeping the toes pointing upwards will ensure a more balanced movement concentrating on the quadriceps as a whole. 3) Mix up when you add in this exercise.
