A few weeks ago I talked to a co-worker about how life was for him growing up in the Soviet Union. For all the evils people think of when they hear communism, the worst things about communism my co-worker could come up with when comparing current government in Uzbekistan to Soviet government; Communism goes against human nature. and My father got warned by KGB to stop attending so many funerals because he might be showing signs of being religious. and If you started dressing too nicely, KGB would question how you got so much money for the fancy clothes. Other than that, he said the Soviet Union had very little crime, everything was affordable, and they were all very excited about getting blue jeans in the 1980s. For $50 you could travel around the country, getting good meals for $0.50 wherever you went. Now, he said there is widespread crime and corruption, wealthy people take advantage of poorer people, and prices have gone through the roof.
