A few weeks ago I was invited to speak in New Grant Chapel A.M.E - TopicsExpress

A few weeks ago I was invited to speak in New Grant Chapel A.M.E Churchs Sunday service. I began my presentation speaking about the systemic racism, police brutality and social violence which was dominating national headlines and the conscience of Black America at the time. Many of our people have been deeply affected on a psychological and emotional level by the devastating news regarding these examples of senseless death in the black community. Some have become so upset that they have even started to hit the streets, begin protesting and doing all sorts of things now because of the outrage generated by the tragic and unfair killings. But why doesnt that same disdain for death carry over to our outrage relative to Krispy Kreme and McDonalds genocidal campaign against our people? We get all angry and demand change when we see someone kill one of ours but dont seem to care as much about the fact that we are killing ourselves every day at the dinner table. Its not like we dont know that many of the foods that we eat are actually killing us, we just dont care. Not enough to demand change on a personal level at least. But what makes us think that our own lives are not worth saving, or at least fighting for? Why is it that we can continue killing ourselves and our loved ones all day every day (through the so-called foods we eat) and not feel the same sense of disgust at ourselves as we do towards others who take our lives? Nutritional genocide is maiming and murdering far more of our people on a daily basis than police brutality, but we continue to unconsciously perpetuate our own demise because of our preference for (or addiction to) the things that are killing us. We have to understand that this spiritual warfare for our survival and success as a people encompasses all aspects of life - not just prayer, meditation and study! After using that hot topic as my inroads to discussing the importance of health and wellness, I touched on a few basic points relative to the importance of health-consciousness, exercise and nutrition, and then closed out the presentation with the reading of a text message that LaRae, one of the students in the School of the Prophets, sent me recently. It was her testifying to the fact that her transition to the vegan diet (which occurred after I spoke in Dr Dunstons class and talked with her afterwards) has helped her get rid of her acid reflux problem, brought her back from being borderline diabetic, helped her lose alot of weight and has given her alot more energy and vitality. She is now working to transition eveything from cleaning items to skin care products to a natural/holistic alternative (and develop her own). I told the audience members that she took charge of her health and they can too, and we can help them do it. Closed out with a reading of Deuteronomy 30:19 and encouraged the audience to choose life and live and was met with a loud round of applause. Afterwards, I spoke with the pastor, the church leader who invited me and several of the special presenters about setting up more events like this and the near future, which everyone agreed is very necessary. As more things are solidified I will be providing more details concerning potential involvement And now that the easy part (public speaking/raising awareness) is over now, its time to get to work redeeming our people!
