A few weeks ago a little 4 year old pipsqueak was petting my big leopard purse. She was smiling as she pet my purse and she kept saying it was so soft. Then her smiles stopped as she turned to me and with her face etched in such grief it was heartbreaking and so haunting, she said in a voice of such sadness It is so sad that a leopard had to be killed for this! I explained to no avail that no leopard had been killed for my purse. But pipsqueak would not release. So I told pipsqueak that her favorite shrug, raincoat and rain boots and her favorite dress were all in leopard print. So pipsqueak immediately leaves to gather her evidence and returns to confront me and to argue her point. She has me feel her fuzzy shrug, her plastic raincoat and boots and cotton dress as she points out the various textures, prints and colors. I cannot argue that the purse is not animal as it is black leather sides with leopard print animal hide with the hairs of the animal still on. Oh dear. So later I go to the rest room in a restaurant by the beach and leave my purse with pipsqueak and her mom. Pipsqueak tells her mom that my purse is real leopard, real leopard!The sad face haunts my night so the next day I rid myself of a purse that cannot defend itself. Sandy calls out to me Hey J. you left your purse on my desk. I tell her no it is her purse and tell her about the pipsqueak. Sandy covers her face and asks So you couldnt convince pipsqueak otherwise? No I couldnt. Then Sandy smiles gigantic and tells me I will happily wear the leopard purse. So later that day I am told that pipsqueak was eating El Pollo Loco and said 0h this chicken is so good.........but it is so sad that a chicken had to be killed. Then on New Years Eve after dinner pipsqueak and I are waiting in the Black and White shop and she picks up a belt with a rose made of black feathers. She tells me that she has found a belt for when she grows up. Then she is petting something black and sparkly. She turns to me with that sad face and the sad voice peeps out it is so sad that a bird had to be killed for this. This what? It is a sparkly necklace of black feathers. Oh dear. So it is a very good thing that I plan to go vegan after my health improves and my blood irons out, my heart refuses to fail, my pressure eases, my sugar lowers and I am just fine. At Christmas while playing a game with 5 year old Xavier and 9 year old Mia and the pipsqueak I tell the leopard story and Mia asks but why did you get rid of your purse? Pipsqueak answers this one with her head bobbing up and down and a voice full of confiding Because I really, really like animals. So I point out a new similar purse of made materials. Pipsqueak is not convinced that it is only plastic. She argues that it is leopard skin under plastic. Oh dear. I tell pipsqueak that the only thing killed for that purse was plastics. So I have a pipsqueak advocate to please so man made is where I am at. Gnite!
