A few weeks ago after many trips to visit our precious son, Robbie at the newer Colbert and Moran cemetery, we noticed they put up yellow caution tape at the entrance on the Music Street side. I never use to travel this road until our son passed away February 17. Larry and I usually went by the way of Dairy Queen because you can also get our house by that route as well. From that heartbreaking day in February we have traveled the Music Street road every time we leave home to visit Robbies grave. I dont understand fully why the caution tape was put up??? We have been told it was due to fast cars that were traveling through there while people were trying to walk and a couple of fast drivers almost coming close to hitting the town employees ??? That is definitely an issue that needs to be taken care of but not bandaged by caution tape. Our argument is I understand people want to walk and they want to walk where it safe from traffic but you do need to understand our argument to that our son is buried there and we like visiting his grave every day. It makes us feel closer to him by going by and checking on his grave, checking his flowers and saying prayers. Now in order to get there we have to go through town and around which is a little inconvenient. We were told that the Music Street entrance is owned by the Town of Gretna and not by Colbert and Moran. Again our argument is we understand that but we own land within that cemetery, we own three burial plots there and my son is in one of them. I have as much right to come visit my son in that cemetery using that entrance as the walkers do walking through. As for the folks that walk that cemetery I understand the peaceful walk there and exercise with no worries of traffic. But I cannot go visit my son anywhere else, but there are plenty other places that are free from traffic to walk in Gretna ...the high school track, elementary school parking lot, the sidewalks with the beautiful scenery of our town. I really dont understand this issue but if theres fast traffic going through why dont the town police monitor the traffic coming in and out more aggressively. It upsets me terribly that this is such a big issue when there are plenty other big issues that need attention drawn to. For instance I live on a state road and people use it as a dump site for mattresses, brush, trash, tires and lots of beer cans...they could monitor the drunk drivers on that road and probably meet their quota not to mention catch a few other things going on. Ive also wondered if its because so much more traffic has been going in and out because when you count the number of times a day my husband and I visit plus his friends plus his other family members it probably does look like a whole lot more traffic coming in and out but isnt that what that entrance was put there for. I would love your support on this and your comments. There has to be a better way to solve this problem than make it inconvenient for those of us that use it got what it was put there for. There can be a method put in place to stop the speeding or to the speeding person(s).
